Unit standards = 88 credits

The duration of the Course is 24 weeks. There are 11 modules, with 6 theory modules (14 weeks) alternating with 5 practical experience modules (10 weeks).  Practical experience modules involve students in working with babies and children of all ages, and a range of child-related home management tasks.  There is also the option of experience in childcare facilities, primary schools and in the area of special needs.

When on practical experience students will be required to complete eight hour days Monday to Friday under supervision and they will be visited by a Centre tutor for assessment.  The minimum requirement is three on-site assessments, but normally every practicum is visited for assessment purposes.  A reference from each practicum is an important component in overall assessment.

Lecture modules are from 8.30am - 4.00pm Monday to Friday.

Students are required to keep written records of their work which are assessed regularly and practical resources are compiled as the course progresses.
