The duration of the Course is 44 weeks.  There are 13 modules, with 7 theory modules (24 weeks) alternating with 6 practical experience modules (17 weeks) with allowance for 3, week long breaks interspersed throughout the course.

Practical experience involves students working with babies and children of all ages and a range of child-related home management and Centre based tasks.  There is also experience in the area of special needs.

When on practical experience students will be required to complete eight hour days Monday to Friday under supervision.  Six of these hours will be contact time and two hours will be allocated for assignment work.  They will be visited by a Centre tutor for assessment.  The minimum requirement is four on-site assessments, but normally every practicum is visited for assessment purposes.  A reference from each practicum is an important component in overall assessment.

Lecture modules are from 8.30am - 4.00pm Monday to Friday.
