Live in 24 hour temps

The range is between $150 & $220 per 24 hour period.

Live in nannies

The same hourly rates listed above are applicable, however a deduction for living costs of between $100 - $200 (dependant on location) from their net weekly wage. This deduction is for full board to include all food and utility expenses. The nanny is responsible for all their own personal items and toiletries.  The greater Auckland area a minimum of $350 per week gross is generally acceptable.

Mileage allowance

All nannies running errands and taking the children to activities or school in their own vehicle are to be paid the standard non-taxable mileage rate of 62cents per kilometre as per Industry Standards. Employers may enquire for assistance/guidance from the IRD Website.

The nanny is required to keep a log book noting the date, where they went, for what purpose and how many kilometres were travelled for the round trip (to avoid any confusion between Employer and Employee). Most families pay this by cheque to the nanny at the end of each month.

Other expenses

Where the nanny does not have the required "Safety Securing Bolt" in their vehicle (for use with certain types of child car seats), the Employer is responsible for the supply and installation costs.

Where the Nanny is requested to make a purchase from her/his own finances on the Employers behalf, reimbursement should be immediate on presentation of necessary documentation (e.g. Receipt).

Taxation

If the Nanny is employed for an ongoing period of 30 hours or more per week, the Family is responsible for PAYE payments and needs to register as an "Employer" with the IRD.

You will need to request an IR333 "First Time Employers Guide" from them; make sure you have your IRD number handy when you contact them.
